The Illustrious Silence

01 Apr 2014

Reading time ~1 minute

The Illustrious Silence

The Illustrious Silence combines my passions of literature and data visualization into a series of coputer-generated images. The end result is a collection of art pieces that are truly a collaberation between myself and the machine.

Motivation

Stories and literature have always played a special role in my life. It’s funny how the feeling that these words give me are not something that I have ever been able to replicate in words of my own. The Illustrious Silence was built to act as an attempt to visually represent my feelings for some of these words, but evolved into what really became a colaberative project between myself and the computer.

Final Result

"To A Great Mind, Nothing Is Little"
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - A Study In Scarlet
"I Have Never Heard A More Eloquent Silence"
Laurie Halse Anderson - Speak
"Sometimes I Can Hear My Bones Straining Under The Weight Of All The Lives I'm Not Living."
Jonathan Safran Foer - Extremely Loud and Inredibly Close
"We Live In A World Defined By Its Boundaries: You Cannot Travel Faster Than The Speed Of Light. You Must And Will Die. You Cannot Escape These Boundaries. But The Miracle And Hope Of Human Consciousness Is That We Can Still Conceive Of Boundlessness."
John Green - This Star Won't Go Out
